A Falling Leaf

I watched a falling leaf today

As it hurled toward the earth.

Whether it simply let go of its own accord

Too tired to hold on longer,

Or was torn away by a fierce fall breeze

I cannot say.

 

Either way,

Its fate was sure.

Then the descent was interrupted

By a wind that scooped it up

Gently rocking it back and forth

Like a baby.

 

Until it came to rest

On solid ground

In a place different

From its original destination.
